10 Day restorative, yin & the nervous system yoga teacher training

80h yoga teacher training with manouk tideman & elena kokkala

17th - 26th March, 2022

The body and mind are inextricably linked, and the Nervous System plays a fundamental role in facilitating this connection.

The nervous system is in many ways the ruler of the body and mind, the effects we see here spill over into all the other systems of the body. This unique yoga teacher training will look at the function of the nervous system from a western perspective, whilst integrating this knowledge with the ancient wisdom of yoga.

The tools learned in this training are some of the most effective means of soothing the nervous system. We’ll investigate the “what, why, and how” for the application of Yin & Restorative yoga as a method of regulating the nervous system and finding balance in our modern-day lives.

This training is open to yoga teachers looking to enhance their skillset and introduce a more therapeutic approach to their teaching. Long-term yoga practitioners wishing to deepen their knowledge and understanding of yoga can also join (in discussion with the facilitators).

Yoga classes will be led by the Lead trainers, and lectures and workshops will be interactive and engaging. You will also have the opportunity to demonstrate your teaching skills by leading a Yin or Restorative yoga class to fellow students.

Participants will receive a Certificate of Completion and can use the full 80 hours of the course as Continuing Education Points with Yoga Alliance.

Our location

La Vida Surf was founded in the midst of wild nature for guests to be able to feel and work with the powers of nature and her elements.

Villa Dar Shajara is nestled in a UNESCO biosphere reserve overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and Atlas Mountains. It is surrounded by thousands of ancient Argan trees from which our villa got its name, Dar Shajara, where “Dar” stands for a house and “Shajara” for a tree.

Dar Shajara is a traditional Moroccan villa - Riad, with a private pool, garden and rooftop yoga shala, with a 360 view over the Atlas Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean.

The nearest local Agadir Al Massira Airport (AGA) is 45 minutes’ drive from the villa and is served by international airlines operating direct flights from major European cities.

  • Elena Kokkala

Elena is a yoga and movement teacher and practitioner since 2014. Ever since the beginning of her yoga journey, yin yoga has been the most substantial part of her practice. Understanding the mechanics and details of the practice and the body has created even more depth in her practice and her teaching. She sees yin yoga as the perfect balance to open and work with the body physically, emotionally and energetically. Her latest obsession has been combining the understanding of the nerves and the nervous system with the practice of yin yoga to enhance further the benefits of the practice.

Her passion in teaching and sharing information is to explain the topic in hand in an understandable and applicable way. To reach this goal, she strongly believes that the practice and the theory must go hand in hand and be followed by repetition. Elena has been teaching over 1500 hours in four different continents and being a forever student herself, she has completed 700 hours of training in different areas of yoga.

Elena is currently managing a retreat center in Morocco. In addition to being general manager and co-creating the program, she is in charge of hiring the right teachers for the retreats and ensuring the quality of the yoga content. She is excited to welcome the very first yoga teacher training at the center of La Vida Surf in collaboration with Yoga with Manouk.

  • Manouk Tideman

I currently lead or guest lecture for various 200hr Yoga Teacher Trainings around the world. I run a specialized 30-hour Restorative Yoga Teacher Training, as well as collaborate with expert yoga teachers to provide high-quality, informative and therapeutic trainings and courses. I have taught in many different countries across the globe, and have worked with retreats and training centers in Spain, Panama, the Netherlands, New Zealand and France.

Alongside this, I'm a Deep Tissue Massage Therapist, which give me a greater depth of knowledge to my understanding and teaching of human anatomy and physiology, and I specialize in working with clients who have chronic pain, physical and emotional tension, and long-standing injuries and ailments. I offer online yoga therapy sessions for those managing anxiety or CFS/ME.

My yoga classes build on the fundamentals of developing a mind-body connection, and witnessing the sense of feeling fully alive as you reconnect to being present. My teaching is influenced by the work of Dr Peter Levine and Dr Bessel van der Kolk who have done ground-breaking research on the relationship between the body, mind and nervous system. Every practice offered in my classes has a purpose and intention. Each class interweaves a vast range of yogic tools that allows you to approach yoga from your own perspective whilst being guided with compassion and substantiated knowledge, and you will leave each class with a better understanding of how to support yourself physically and psychologically - on and off your yoga mat.
